Fokker Dr.1 Triplane Fighter

Use it to imagine the absolute freedom of flying freely in the vast sky. Use speed to grab all airspace.

Known primarily as Manfred von Richthofen’s fighter of choice, the Fokker Dr.I of 1917 was ordered as a replacement for the poorly performing Albatross D.III fighter. After viewing a captured British Sopwith Triplane, Fokker was directed to build a similar triplane. The resulting two prototypes and later pre-production models were deemed superior to the Sopwith Triplane by Richthofen himself after he scored two kills in two days. Shortly after, Ace Werner Voss added 8 kills to his tally flying one of the two pre-production planes. This resulted in an order for 300 Dr.I’s. The diminutive three wing fighter featured a fuselage, tailplane and rudder made of welded steel tubing, while the wings were built around light weight hollow box spars. Armament consisted of two 8mm Spandau machine guns synchronised with the propellor. Although the Dr.I was highly manoeuvrable and had an excellent rate of climb, it was slow compared to its adversaries and some examples were plagued by catastrophic wing failures causing the aircraft to break up under stress. Due to these shortcomings the Dr.I was replaced by the Fokker D.III.

My medal comes from passionate freedom.

FAQ

Do I need to cut parts out of the boards?

No, details are already cut and you should just press them out of the board. They are connected with small crosspieces. If you have some difficulties to remove a detail, just cut a crossbar with a knife.

What are your advice on assembly?

To prevent making ruts, press the detail out from the part of the board where the lines are thicker. When inserting the detail into the slots or notches, be careful not to damage the small tabs. Refer to the box photos for additional guidance during assembly. If you encounter difficulty removing a detail, use a knife to carefully cut through the crossbar.
What tools or supplies are necessary for model assembly?
Assembly can be completed in just 30 minutes by following the diagram, and no additional tools are required. Although it is not designed to fly, it offers an interactive experience that allows players to engage their hands, minds, and hearts.

Is it feasible to apply paint to the model?

Yes, you can paint it. We recommend using watercolor, gouache, or mordant for best results. Acrylic paints can also be used. The natural color of the log does not have the scorched black edges that are typical of laser-cut products, and the edges of our product remain pure and flawless. It looks excellent without any additional coloring.
Is it appropriate for children to collect your models?
We can confidently say that a 14-year-old child can assemble our models, although they may occasionally require some assistance from their parents. Our mission is to unite children and their parents through the process of assembly. We assure you that assembling iló models is a pleasant, interesting, and fun activity that promotes creativity and social bonding. Enjoy the assembly process at your own pace, following the detailed and comprehensive illustrated step-by-step instructions.
